Hello! My name is Maggy.  I grew up in a small town called Devine just south of San Antonio. Being the youngest of seven kids, I quickly learned the art of compromise and how to get along in a busy household of diverse personalities. My parents raised Quarter Horses and I grew up loving the outdoors and riding horses.

My husband Thom is an architect, so we share a lot of common interests in real estate, architecture and construction.  We grew up together in Devine, but it would be almost 20 years before our paths crossed again. We were married in 2003.  We share an office here in Kerrville and have found that we are a great team!

2008 was a year of major transitions, personally and professionally.  Our Hill Country real estate market saw a major reduction in volume from over $245 million in residential sales in 2007 to about $179 million in 2008-roughly a 27% drop in sales.  Things tend to happen for a reason, though, and the slowdown in sales allowed me to spend a good deal of time with my father, Ray Whitaker, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in May of 2008 and passed away just two months later.  My siblings and I all pitched in to help care for him and I will always be thankful for my Dad and grateful for this time we shared.  There is a link on the home page of my website that accesses the eulogy I wrote for him.  I miss him every day.

My son Ray is named for my Dad and is now 13 years old and taller than me.  He´s an avid baseball player.  Due to his busy practice and tournament schedule, we made the difficult decision in 2008 to sell our beloved "Paddle Creek" residence (the origin of our business names) and move closer into town.

As the door closed on many great memories at Paddle Creek, a window of opportunity opened for us to buy a family ranch between Devine and Castroville which we have helped manage for the last couple of years.  We divide our time now between our Kerrville home and the ranch where we raise cattle and care for the remaining four horses from my parents´ stock.  The ranch has a big tank and yes, we still do a lot of fishing!

I obtained my Texas real estate salesperson´s license in 1996 and earned my broker´s license in 1998.  Over the years, I have taken the necessary courses and gained the experience required to become a Certified Residential Specialist (CRS). Only 6 of Kerrville's 250+ agents currently have the CRS designation. I have also earned the e-PRO and ABR (Accredited Buyer Representative) designations recognized by the National Association of REALTORS®.  In 2009, I have been selected to serve on the Appraisal Review Board for Kerr County --an opportunity to continue to learn and grow in my profession, as well as serve the community.

I´m proud to say I have inherited my father´s work ethic.  Professionally, I am an extremely hard worker. Whether you are buying or selling, I am an agent who will go the extra mile! Kerrville has a lot of part-time agents who "dabble" in real estate, but I think you'll discover that I am a full-time professional dedicated to serving you!

Respectfully,
Maggy Swyers-Oppelt, ABR, CRS, e-PRO
